How To
Study The Form
An important part of my research into providing my
members with the best horse racing tips I can, involves studying a horse’s
form. In order to do this, I will normally consult The Racing Post and a
couple of specialist horse racing websites, as they will normally give me
the key information that I need.
Together with information that I am able to obtain
from other sources, this means that I am able to assess the suitability
(or not) of a particular horse, and in turn whether or not it is worthy of
becoming one of my racing tips for that particular day.
What The Form Tells Us
If low risk betting on horses was fairly simple,
all we would do is back favourites the majority of the time, however
statistics tell us that this is just not viable. Favourites win races less
than 50% of the time, and with the lower odds that these horses offer us
punters, as far as betting on horses is concerned you will soon lose your
money if you implement this strategy.
One of the keys to success is to look for horses
who are currently in form, or at the very least are running well despite
the fact that they may not have won. It is possible for a horse to have
ran well and to have progressed – without necessarily winning, so this is
something to look out for.
A horse’s form is an indicator of how it has
performed at different courses and in different conditions. It will tell
us just how effective that horse was given the competition, the jockey on
board and the weight it was carrying – all important things to consider
when betting on horses.
Other Racing Tips To Consider
Some of the other factors that I look for when
assessing suitable racing tips, is to see when a horse last ran and when
it last won (if at all). I prefer to look at horses who have ran at least
in the last four to five weeks, as although having a long rest may be
considered a good thing, I am a firm believer that it can take a
competitive run or two to get back into the groove.
In fact, I will confess that I have to have
extremely solid, concrete, overriding information to even consider betting
on horses who have not had a recent outing. It has happened one or twice
in the past, but no more than that.
Is the horse carrying less weight than its
previous outing? If it is, and the horse is showing favourable indicators
elsewhere, this can often be a trigger to selecting a horse, at least onto
a short-list. My racing tips would never solely be based on this alone,
however it does form part of the jigsaw puzzle and is a positive tick in
the box.
I hope that this gives you a small flavour of what
to look out for. I have other racing tips featured in other articles
within this site so please take a look. It is my experience that it is
better to provide information in smaller chunks, rather than overwhelming
you with pages upon pages of text, as its easier to take in.
