My Top Five Racing Tips For The Novice

Racing Advice – Top 5 Common Sense Tips For Beginners

Racing advice is critical in horse race betting. For anyone who enjoys horse racing or are horse racing enthusiasts, there is both a love of the sport, as well as an ultimate desire to earn some profit in the course of enjoying that sport.

The horse racing community is tight-knit – punters and other enthusiasts exchange ideas and advice all the time, which is why I am in a fortunate position and so are my members.

There is some basic advice that everyone involved in this community usually shares and there are common sense tips that everyone typically follows when they are taking part in horse race betting.

Common Sense Advice For Those New To Horse Racing

The following five pieces of advice have often kept me and my members from losing our shirts while betting on horse races. These tips will help the novice avoid many of the pitfalls that those who are new to the horse race betting business typically fall into.

1. Bet cautiously when the going is heavy

Remember that when a course is saturated, and therefore the going is soft or even heavy, the form that you’ve researched related to each horse essentially goes out the window. There are so many factors related to the fact that a going is heavy that it’s critical to keep in mind that in an environment like that, form isn’t something that should be heavily weighted, so much so, that it’s highly recommended you avoid placing a bet entirely.

2. Apply caution in races with more than 14 horses

The more horses there are on the track does of course affect the ability to pick the winner, so success rates drops exponentially. It is normally difficult for beginners to pick a winning horse in a large field where there are lots of considerations, which is why it’s highly recommended you completely avoid betting on races that have over 14 horses in it, unless you have cast iron information and there is value in it.

3. Prepare a budget and stick to it.

The most important piece of advice is that you should budget carefully and maintain a betting bank that you will never exceed. This is something I preach heavily at Grosvenor Racing Club. Whatever you do, do not exceed your budget as too many people decide to start out in a huge way, and don’t have enough money to make it to the end of the day – and it’s always the race that you miss that could be the value winner. Budget carefully so that you can proportion your budget over all races, and you will do much better.

4. Listen to the experts

Always locate the best experts, and if they are sharing advice – listen! There are folks like myself who have followed horse racing for many years – some of them have even been involved as trainers or jockeys. They, more than anyone else, will know what works and what doesn’t on a particular track or under particular conditions..

5. Course bias

Always keep an eye on what is called course bias. This is when a horse may have a particular liking or disliking for the course, the distance and the going, or all three. These factors can often greatly alter the outcome of a race and is of course, something that I always take into account when considering which racing tips to give out.

Ultimately, being successful is all about the above five factors building a foundation for you. Once you're more experienced you will soon be in a position to move on to the next level. By applying the above principles, you will be in a great position to increase your chances of winning.
